Safe Routes to School Grant
In 2024 the of City of Mendota was awarded a Safe Routes to School Grant/ Non-Infrastructure and Infrastructure grant.
The Infrastructure grant funded sidewalks about two miles of sidewalk around Lincoln Elementary.
Th Non-Infrastructure grant funded surveys, audits, and planning to develop a comprehensive plan of safe routes to each school. For the full plan, click HERE
With the remaining funds, the City partnered with Live Well Mendota to participate in the National Walk, Bik, Roll to School event. Every school participated and in total, 69 students walked, 52 biked, and 13 rolled to school. Four of the six schools had full bike racks.
The City of Mendota has been awarded a 2026 Safe Routes to School grant. This will fund a sidewalk along Hwy. 34 from Plaza Drive to Blackstone Elementary and sidewalk along 14th Ave to be completed in the summer of 2028.
